Three things: (1) Deep space travel at speeds anticipated in present rocket engines and near future power design increases must have deflector capability. Advanced radar on board a ship might steer a ship from impact but not all the time. Constant deflection must be part of any deep space ship.
(2) Radiation exposure stands as an equal danger to collision. We must develop an impenetrable Radiation shield.
(3) Any deep space ship must have great size to carry survival equipment and engine parts as well as electronic needs. This great size also gives humans room to move around and shake boredom from their psyche and physical well being.
Just saying..
Seems a bit longer than foretold a few years back, but let’s recall these things ramp up quickly at SpaceX’s.
Crew Dragon also was a bit protracted, but now it’s the main (and so far only) active crew launch vehicle for NASA, with a bit of private missions too.
