Tesla has been testing Full Self-driving Beta V12.X with 50,000 employees for a few weeks but has now begun staged rollout for Tesla FSD buyers with HW4.
Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) v12 is a milestone in autonomous driving technology. It uses end-to-end neural networks, which are AI networks that can be used for everything from vehicle input to output. These new networks can replace more than 300,000 lines of explicit code.
Elon Musk said that FSD v12 would remove the beta designation. IF this happens at the end of the staged deployment, then Tesla would be able to recognize about $2 billion in deferred revenue.
There may be a need one more upgrade needed to adjust for the overfit to California. There could also be a few months to train the European and Chinese versions of V12.X.
We're pleased to share that Full Self-Driving (Beta) v12.1.2 is now going out to *some* customers and includes vehicles with HW4 for the first time. https://t.co/xCId81Bu31

Tesla would ultimately deploy V12.1 to Wave1 employees on December 27th, over a week earlier than expected.
This was substantially faster than the rollout of V11, which first went out to the specialized group on November 11th and wouldn’t be received by Wave1 until March 7th the following year. A difference of almost three months.
3️⃣ V12.1 Feedback
Since the initial release of V12.1 to Wave1, we’ve received at least a dozen reviews and feedback from employees, which we’ve summarized below:
72% expressed improvements in “human-like behavior” and general stability, 20% noted no change, 8% noted some worsened experiences.
~40% expressed improvements with roundabouts, ~50% noted no change, ~10% noted some worsened experiences.
37% expressed improvements in lane-keeping, 60% noted no change, 3% noted some worsened experiences.
For transparency purposes, all employees included in the results above reside in California.
4️⃣ Our Outlook and Possible Delays
With the initial goal of expansion to Wave1 met, the 3.5x rate improvement in progress compared to V11, and daily testing of cutting-edge Full Self-Driving (Beta) V12 builds with ADAS roles, we’re remaining hopeful for the release of V12 in late January [Nextbigfuture notes that this is happening now]. .
With the release of the Cybertruck, some energy has been redirected towards finalizing a stable build of FSDb for these vehicles, which may cause some unexpected delays. We are also monitoring continued rollouts to additional vehicles within Wave1 and additional regions within the United States and Canada.
To summarize: Tesla’s rapid rate of improvements and progress since V11 leans towards our projection of an initial release of V12 to customers this month, with a very likely chance of Actually Smart Summon (ASS) slipping into the later end of Q1.
Let's discuss Full Self-Driving (Beta) V12, where it is at today following the expansion to Wave1, and some exclusive news as well.
Before we proceed, we're pleased to share that as of this weekend, Tesla has begun internal testing of Actually Smart Summon (ASS) on company-owned… pic.twitter.com/pNcAuS0jcb
