China Nuclear Energy Plans Will Expand With AI Demand

Last year, China approved 12 nuclear reactors for construction. China already had very large energy plans in order as the average wealth increases and to replace the 70% of energy from coal. However, there are two major new energy demands are emerging. There is the new need for energy for AI data centers. AI data centers could triple the current level of data centers by 2030. There is need for more rapid electrification of cars and trucks.

China currently has the second most nuclear energy with 57 GW but this should pass the USA at 100 GW by 2030. China should have 110 GW in 2030 and 150 GW in 2035 and is targeting 400 GW in 2060. China needs to complete several reactors and each 70 GW by 2025. They will need another 40 GW of reactor completions to reach the 110 GW goal.

China would need to add 100 GW every 10 years from 2025 to reach 400 GW by 2060. There has been discussion of reaching 1200 GW by 2100. China has 1200 GW of coal power now.
